Då Groucho aldrig var den som missade en chans att skapa lite publicitet runt en film gav han sken av att filmbolaget Warner Brothers, som låg bakom filmen Casablanca med Humphrey Bogart, hade ett och annat att säga om Marx-brödernas parodi, A Night In Casablanca, i vilken huvudpersonen fått namnet Humphrey Bogus:

Dear Warner Brothers:

Apparently there is more than one way of conquering a city and holding it as your own. For example, up to the time that we contemplated making a picture, I had no idea that the City of Casablanca belonged exclusively to Warner Brothers.

However, it was only a few days after our announcement appeared that we received a long, ominous legal document, warning us not to use the name “Casablanca”.

It seems that in 1471, Ferdinand Balboa Warner, the great-great grandfather of Harry and Jack, while looking for a short cut to the city of Burbank, had stumbled on the shores of Africa and, raising his alpenstock, which he later turned in for a hundred shares of common, named it Casablanca.

Humor är något som dagens filmbolag inte förstår, tror jag allt.

Scorsese i boken Kubrick: The Definitive Edition av Michel Ciment (en bok jag köpte för fem-sex år sen men aldrig hunnit läsa. Nu är det dags):

Watching a Kubrick film is like gazing up at a mountaintop. You look up and wonder, how could anyone have climbed that high? There are emotional passages and images and spaces in his films that have an inexplicable power, with a magnetic force that draws you in slowly, mysteriously: the boy’s rides on his Big Wheel through the endless corridors of the hotel in The Shining; the monumental silence of outer space in 2001: A Space Odyssey; the inhuman pace of the first half of Full Metal Jacket, building up to its logical, murderous conclusion; the grandeur of the war room in Dr. Strangelove, at once scary and comical; the brutal pop future of A Clockwork Orange; the raw intimacy of the exchanges between Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman in Eyes Wide Shut.

Har just sett Moon. Fantastisk film. Lånar friskt från främst 2001 men också från Solaris (den nya versionen) men det gör ingenting, för det fungerar ändå.

Fantastisk filmaffisch också.
